Lessons From The Universe: #2: Fear Is The Front Door To Your Destiny
Welcome to the second post in my new mini-series - Lessons from the Universe.
This week it has become very apparent to me that often the very things we’re most afraid of… are actually pointing us toward our greatest purpose. We’re conditioned to avoid fear. To tiptoe around discomfort. To stay in our safe zones and label fear as a warning sign to turn back. But in truth? I strongly believe that fear is not your enemy. It's your compass. After doing a multitude of Human Design sessions helping people to find their purpose, it’s become blindingly obvious to me that fear and purpose are often very much intertwined.
Personally, I grew up with an intense fear of being seen. The truth is that I just wanted to hide away from the world and I would hate it more than anything if attention was drawn my way. To be honest, a large part of me wanted to stay small and invisible… and safe! After doing a lot of reflection on one of my biggest fears in life, and simultaneously deep-diving into my Human Design, Gene Keys and Numerology over the years, I have arrived at the conclusion that my fear of being seen is ultimately just pointing me toward a path of visibility, leadership, and deep soul expression. Now I actively make an effort to try and transcend my fears by stretching myself in small but powerful ways. Now I almost become a little bit excited when I feel a fear bubbling away inside of me, because I know that when I conquer a small visibility challenge, there is always magic on the other side.
We often resist facing our fears because we’ve been conditioned to believe fear equals danger. But in most cases, fear is just resistance to expansion. It’s your nervous system reacting to unfamiliar energy – not because it’s unsafe, but because it’s new. Growth feels like fear at first. Purpose feels like fear at first. Because your purpose will always stretch you. It will always ask you to become more of who you truly are.
Fear becomes your greatest tool when you understand that it guards the door to your next level. Your fear isn’t trying to sabotage you. It’s trying to initiate you. When you start walking toward your fears – consciously, gently, with support – you unlock the exact energy and insight your purpose requires.
Your fear of not being good enough becomes the fuel that empowers you to stand in your full authenticity – confidently and unapologetically yourself.
Your fear of outshining others becomes your light that gives others permission to rise.
The fear of using your voice? It could be the nudge that your words are meant to move people.
The fear of failure? Often a sign that something big, bold, and impactful is waiting on the other side – if only you’re willing to step through the unknown.
And the exciting part - the bigger the fear, the greater the potential for alignment and transformation on the other side of it! So I have come to realise when people ask me in a session what their purpose is in life, I always ask them what they are most afraid of. Because your biggest fears? They’re not obstacles. They’re invitations.
And as the old quote goes - “everything you want is on the other side of fear”.
